Message from the chairmanSince the 27th of January 2007, children with cancer across Europe have better access to potentially life-saving cancer treatments, thanks to the new European Paediatric Regulation.
This is the first time a specific law has been passed in Europe that will improve pharmaceutical paediatric research, and eventually children’s health.
From now on, any new medicine licensed in Europe must explored for its potential use in children, if there is an identified medical need. The changes will apply to all kinds of drugs and they will be of particular benefit to children with cancer.
ITCC, an Academic European Consortium for Innovative Therapies for Children with Cancer, welcomed this new law which will profoundly impact access to innovative treatments for children with cancer.
During the last 4 years, ITCC has created a network of academic researchers, physicians and parents, who have been working in close collaboration and in partnership with pharmaceutical companies and regulatory bodies to enforce this legislation.
